London (MOREL) - leading British media dedicated significant attention to the Russian billionaire, Aleksander Lebdev, which initiated the conclusive phase of negotiations with the owners of London daily newspaper, The Independent, which is liberally orientated. Lebdev is a controversial personality and an ex-KGB agent. He transformed himself into an advocate of business tansparency and the freedom of the press, he is a strict critic of Kremlin to which he, however, recently sold 450 millions of Dollars worth of share in Russian Air Company Aeroflot and financial corporation Iljušin. If he does succeed in his intention of becoming an owner of The Independent, it will be the second British newspaper in his ownership because he recently also took over the Evening Standard.
